So the other day I was overwhelmed with this bubbly excitement when I saw a car hesitate at a red light. Now you might wonder why this particular car hesitated. Let me rewind this story to my early driving days in Winnipeg. I will first off tell you that learning to drive safely in the city of Winnipeg has been quite the challenge.
Now as a BC driver it is programmed into my brain to stop at red light. Sometimes there is a red light with a green turning arrow, but this is normal. You know that you should turn right while the rest of the traffic stops.
In Winnipeg there is such a thing called the red light with a straight green. Okay picture that in your head. Your driving alone you a see a red light, you are going straight..the first thought is to stop right? What about if you get this light with a straight arrow...??????? I stopped. I hesitated. My brain would not accept that I could go. It makes no sense. What is the point in the red light if you can go?????? Geesh.
So back to my bubbly excitement. i watched this car hesitate and I knew it had to be an out of province person...lone and behold is was Saskatchewanite! ....and I thought wow I am not alone....sigh what a great feeling.
That was only my first rant secondly, I have run numerous red lights in this city and I can't figure out why I don’t see them until I am halfway in the intersection. Then the best ever is when your lane is turning and it doesn’t match up with the road. Suddenly your car is in limbo and you must scramble to find the correct lane....
Lastly I have never ever experienced so many people who go 10 KM under the speed limit...in the fast lane.
My mind is boggled. Winnipeg and driving should not come hand in hand...there needs to be a whole book written for all rules. My roommate told me after another one of my many traffic rants that in this city, there is actually a light U-Turns....now folks we have seen everything!

Ah yes...the infamous Winnipeg green arrow and red light. Even those of us who have lived here all our lives think it's a bit strange...
